Thank you, exercise and travel

I receive many nice comments about my posts and I want to thank you for them. I try to read every one and I find them inspiring! I still get occasional requests for the 9 exercises and I’ve included the list with stick drawings. I’ve also added my favorite quotation “Don’t Quit!” I kept it in my wallet when I was much younger just starting out. Now that I’m 92 it’s still good to read once in a while and confirms to me that we should never quit.

My exercise routine was far more intense many years ago. What you see on the exercise list is what I do now. I want to keep the routine simple so very little equipment is needed. The elliptical is the only pricey thing. I prefer to have my full workout early in the day and then get on with my other interests. So, I want to do my exercises at home and not make a big deal of it. My idea of a full workout includes aerobic (cardio), upper body strength, stretching, and balance. I like to have this short exercise session almost daily. It’s like a habit and I like knowing I can do it and then get on with things. The only purpose is to be healthy and fit.
I recently read a series of exchanges on this site about a lady who found leg lifts (raises) to be very helpful and I thought I’d try doing them. I found them to be easy and I could do a great many. I won’t be adding them to my list. I think that maybe my #6 ball exercise and the #7 roller exercise provide a similar benefit.

About 10 days ago I took a trip to Houston by plane and home, and then to Chattanooga by car and home. There were delays, standing in long lines, canceled flights, exhausting! When I got home to Wilmington NC a couple of days ago, I was tired. I had done no exercising while I was away. I exercised the next day and was very surprised at how well it went. The statistics (speed and heart rate) were better than before I left. I’m not sure why that would be although in Chattanooga I was with family and I slept well, food was very good, and seeing everyone specially the children was enjoyable.
The Houston trip actually went well. It was about my many years old ‘project’ and I know I was in a bit of a slump before I left. That happens occasionally. Maybe the trip and the excitement of traveling pulled me out of it. I feel pretty good right now and that means my exercises will go well. I wanted to lose 6 pounds before I left so I stopped eating carbs and sugar and it worked.
I exercise regularly because it makes me feel good and keeps me healthy and fit! It gives me a sense of accomplishment. Getting there takes time and patience. But the result is that my quality of life keeps at the high level I’ve been accustomed to!
